Monetization Wary – “I Smell a Cash Grab”
When I hear “10-year roadmap,” I immediately think: 10 years of monetization schemes. Sorry to be D4 items cynical, but the industry has trained us to be cautious. Especially with Activision-Blizzard’s track record.
Let’s be honest—every seasonal event, class rework, or expansion will come bundled with new paid content, exclusive skins, and “limited time” offers. Battle passes will likely become more aggressive. I can already see the roadmap full of “content drops” that are really just opportunities to spend money.
And don’t think this will be limited to cosmetics. Features that used to be free—like stash tabs or new difficulty tiers—might become premium. Heck, if they’re bold enough, they’ll try to gatekeep entire acts or regions behind expansion paywalls.
What I fear is that the “vision” behind the roadmap is less about creative direction and more about corporate strategy. Ten years of Diablo could be amazing—but only if they prioritize players, not shareholders.
Prove me wrong, Blizzard. Give us meaningful content without gouging us. Make Diablo about demons, not dollars.
